Aquatics
General Information
The Levitank pool is a 4 lane, 25m Main Pool with a beach-like ramp, therapeutic hot tub, shallow baby pool, slide, and patio lounge.
The pool office handles first aid and emergency response for the entire SJCC, and features a small Aquatic Pro Shop with discount prices on goggles, caps, and other items commonly required by our swimmers.
In order to help us keep our pool clean, please remember to shower with soap and water before entering the pool.
GENERAL POOL & HOT TUB SCHEDULE
The pool is open from the time the building opens to one 1/2 hour before the building closes (some exceptions). Swimmers will find one lap lane open at all times except during group lessons and major swim team practices. Our hot tub is also open from the time the building opens to half an hour before closing, except during restricted gender swims (where access is granted to men or women only).
NEW ADMISSION STANDARDS FOR CHILDREN
- New standards have been issued by the Office of the Chief Coroner to assist lifeguards in maintaining adequate surveillance over the whereabouts and the activities of young bathers while they are inside the pool enclosure.
- Children ages 8 to 10 are required to pass a swim test in order to swim unsupervised. Children who do not complete the test are required to be directly supervised by a parent or guardian (16+) who is present in the water within arms reach at all times.
- Children under the age of 8 may not be admitted to the swimming pool unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian (16+) who is in the water within arms reach of the child, with a maximum of two children for each parent or guardian
In an effort to keep our pool safe and properly maintained we must periodically close the pool for minor repairs. We will do our best to notify our members in advance, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
LOW RATIO CLASSES
If you love group lessons but wish they didn’t have as many participants, this could be the answer for you! Preschool classes limited to 3: Swimmer 1 and 2 limited to 3; Swimmer 3–6 limited to 4.
SWIMMER LEVELS
Our Swimmer program makes sure children learn how to swim before they get in too deep. Swimmer progressions accommodate 5 to 12 year-olds including absolute beginners as well as swimmers who want to build on the basics. We stress lots of in-water practice to develop solid swimming strokes and skills. We incorporate Water Smart® education in all levels.
CANADIAN SWIM PATROL
The on–ramp to lifeguarding for 9–12 year-olds who are ready to go beyond swim lessons. Swim Patrol has 3 levels: Rookie, Ranger & Star. Content is organized in 3 groups: Water Proficiency, First Aid, and Rescue. Swim Patrol develops swimming strength and efficiency with emphasis on Water Smart® behaviour. Skill drills enhance capability in the water, good physical conditioning and lifesaving judgment.

Lifesaving Society’s Pre–School Program
Parent and Tot 1 (3–12 months)
Parent and Tot 2 (12–24 months)
Parent and Tot 3 (22–36 months)
This exciting program structures in-water interaction between parent and child to stress the importance of play in developing water-positive attitudes and skills. Activities are planned based on the child’s maturity so parents register in the level appropriate for their child’s age.
Preschool A (3–5 yrs) • 1:3
We’ll help these little swimmers jump into the water, and learn to float, glide and kick with assistance. They’ll learn the importance of staying “within arms reach” and become comfortable putting their faces in and blowing bubbles.
Preschool B (3–5 yrs) • 1:3
These little swimmers will jump in on their own and learn to float, glide and kick with an aid. They’ll learn to put on a lifejacket/Personal Floatation Device and learn to move safely through the water on their front and back.
Preschool C (3–5 yrs) • 1:3
These little swimmers will jump into chest-deep water, learn to float, glide and kick on their own and retrieve an object from the bottom. They’ll gain exposure to deep water and learn the basics of rhythmic breathing.
Preschool D (3–5 yrs) • 1:5
These kids are becoming quite the swimmers! They’ll jump
into deep water, kick on their front and back, tread water
and learn basic front and back crawl. They’ll learn the
importance of swimming with a buddy and wearing a PFD/
lifejacket.
Preschool E (3–5 yrs) • 1:5
These advanced preschoolers will learn how to react if they fall unexpectedly into deep water. They’ll develop breath control, master short swims using front and back crawl, and begin developing whip kick.
Swimmer 1 • 1:5
These beginners will become comfortable opening their eyes and exhaling underwater. They will be introduced to floating, gliding and kicking and jumping into the water. This level is geared to those who are over 5 and have not learned to submerge underwater and have little or no swimming
Swimmer 2 • 1:5
Participants will jump into deep water and learn to support
themselves with an aid. Learn the foundation of effective whip
kick. They will build confidence in both deep and shallow
water, and develop front and back crawl over short distances.
Swimmer 3 • 1:6
These swimmers will dive, jump and roll into the water and develop water–smart attitudes. They will improve their front and back crawl, tread water add propulsion to their whip kick, swim underwater and continue to build endurance with swims of up to 50 meters.
Swimmer 4 • 1:6
These swimmers will refine both entry and surface dives and learn eggbeater kick, sculling and breaststroke while continuing to improve their front and back crawl and work towards a 100 meter endurance swim.
Swimmer 5 • 1:6
These swimmers will master shallow dives, eggbeater and foot–first sculling. Surface dives will take them down to underwater swims while sprints and interval training will improve both the efficiency and endurance of their breaststroke, front and back crawls.
Swimmer 6 • 1:6
These swimmers will perfect their swimming strokes while building up to a 300 meter endurance swim. They will perfect a variety of movement and underwater skills while continuing to build fitness and efficiency through sprints and interval swim training.
Swim Patrol Rookie (Swimmer 7) • 1:8
These swimmers will begin the exciting journey into advanced swimming and basic lifesaving. They’ll improve their strokes, speed and endurance, while learning techniques that can save lives. Perfect for kids looking for more than simply swimming lessons.
Swim Patrol Ranger (Swimmer 8) • 1:8
These junior lifesavers will continue to build strength, efficiency and fitness through workouts and drills designed to improve their strokes and skills. They’ll learn the rescue and first aid skills that will help them make wise choices around the water.
Swim Patrol Star (Swimmer 9) • 1:8
Stars perfect their strokes with challenging workouts, sprints and endurance swims. They’ll learn essential lifesaving and rescue techniques and build a strong foundation for success in the advanced lifesaving program.
Bronze Star • 1:10
This group will support 10 lbs for 2 minutes and 25m; timed swim 300m in 9 minutes. Preferred successful completion: Patrol Star and suggested 12 years old.
Swim Fitness Training Level • 1:8
Beginner swimming workout with stroke correction. Must be
able to swim 6–8 lengths comfortably and know front crawl,
back crawl and breast stroke. This is NOT a learn-to-swim
program.
