Terrence Rundle West is a retired high school teacher. In 2008 he won the Northern "LIT" award for his second book: Run of the Town. He will speak on his latest book Not in My Father's Footsteps.
Not in My Father's Footsteps is a well-researched historical novel that opens in pre-depression Montreal — a conflict riddled city where French vs. English, Catholic vs. Protestant, business vs. unions, church vs. state, and where institutionalized anti-Semitism is a fact of life. We are introduced to our 2 main protagonists, Dollard Dejardins and Marty Kellenberger, who like other young men of the times were greatly impacted by the economic strife and despair of the Depression. As a result, these two men and 1200 other Canadian young men, were drawn into the Spanish Civil War against Franco's fascists sadly each on different sides.
